That would actually be ideal! If I could somehow find 2-3 normal roommates, have a cheaper rent and live in a nice place, that'd be perfect!

Agreed. I have an awesome roommate. We get along very well.

$42k is plenty to live on in Miami.

Before taxes.

Many conflicting posts on here. Not sure if my decision has gotten any easier.

I'm starting to assume that Miami isn't like NYC or Boston where you can easily find 2-3 roommates to split costs and live in a nice and desireable location.

I don't know what your situation is, do you have a car payment, or are you planning on going without a car? You can live on that amount...just not on my standard of living...and I think that you can find some roommates, that are normal...but it is just that there are so many who are not...it is difficult...

Ok, let me break it down to you.

$42k, that would be about $2500-2700 take home pay pay a month depending on your deductions.

You can easily find a 1 bedroom in Brickell for $1400 a month. Electric about $60, internet/cable combo is $40; then you got food, etc.

Even throwing out $2000 a month in living expenses, you still have $1500 left over.

So, depending how many other expenses you have, $500-700 may be plenty, or it may not be enough.

Also, if you work in Brickell, you save on parking expenses and commute expenses, like me!

EDIT: my calculations had a 1 in front of it due to me watching TV and eating at the same time as I was responding!

That doesn't quite compute. If you take home $2500-$2700 and expenses are $2000, you have $500-$700 for everything else, not $1500.

Currently I make less than $42k and have about $1,000 extra money per month to spend/save.

It certainly seems like I would be saving and enjoying leisure time more making less right now than I would living in Miami with a higher salary.
