Hello,

Due to an unexpected change in travel plans, I will find myself in Sunrise, FL next week. I know about the Sawgrass Mills Mall, but other than that, what else is there to do in or around Sunrise? How close/far is the nearest beach and is the weather still nice enough to get in the water? What else is there to do in Fort Lauderdale/Sunrise?

I will have a car to get around so that is not an issue, I will be there all week and just want some ideas. I'm also interested in checking out Miami, how close/far is it and where should I go? Since it's my first time visiting Fort Lauderdale or Miami, I'm interested in tourist-type things. I'm also really interested in the Latino scene since I'm Hispanic.

I'll be on my own most of the time, so I'd like to stay away from sketchy areas. Any advice regarding that would be nice, too.

Any advice/suggestions/insights are appreciated.

Thanks,
Victoria

Hi victiria, welcome to sunny south florida...you are staying in a really nice area. Some great things to do in sunrise, as you already know sawgrass mall is a gr8 place...and also u can catch the panthers play.... But thats pretty much it....unless ur alredy hitched and have kids....theres no reason to be there....head east and hit the beach...im not familiar with ft lauderdale....but miami beach is the place to be....lots of culture festivities and events take place there any time of the year....from wine week, food week, boat week, to heck even porn week. So alas if u wanna have a good time, youll know where i'll be....see u there

Id recommend Fort Lauderdale over Miami, as far as going down there and hanging out. Lots of beach, and bars, and nightlife. Catch the hard rock hotel up there, downtown ft lauderdale, and hollywood beach at least. I live in miami and find my self enjoying Ft Lauderdale more than miami...

There is nothing in Sunrise.
The "Sunrise Town Center" is literally a shopping center.
It's just suburban sprawl far away from everything.

I would recommend trying to go east towards downtown Ft. Lauderdale. Something nice to visit would be Las Olas.
