I have read in various places that people living in Miami spend around 44% of their income on rent or housing. Living in Coral Springs we spend exactly 31.2% of our income on rent, and are just getting by (family of four with one car).

How much do you spend on rent, and what would be considered normal for South Florida?

Don't have rent, but spend 25% on property tax.

I spend 21% of my income on a very nice condo on Atlantic. Great Landlord 2/2 with internet and cable in lease. I hope that at the end of the lease, I will be able to purchase a larger unit.

Talking Better than I deserve

Less than 9% on rent while waiting for house to be built.

Completely debt free for 5 years, and live on a cash budget.

I think a more accurate picture would be painted if you asked and polled:

To people that started renting within the last two years, and ot from a friend or family member, what percentage of your income goes to rent?

A lot of people have connections that if they left their apartment today, the next person to come along and rent it would pay a much higher price.

A good question would be how much do you earn monthy and what is your position?

Many people here have jobs that they can't even explain what they do, or the title, it's all very mysterious and deliberately gray.

Most people in Miami are paying neatly half of their income on rent (not necessarily people on city data) and at that, they combine incomes and share apartments and homes.
