Even though I can see through your sarcasm I have to add that there are 3 strong (or at least moderate) music scenes in Miami: Salsa, Drum&Bass, and Regetton; followed by Hip Hop. Scenes are not valued by how many people listen to a certain genre in the radio, but by the numbers of gigs held, concert goers, number of musicians, and so on.

I have to ask, sorry... - moving from NYC to Broward, Cooper City/Weston area. Is it different than what has been described in this wonderful, eye-opening thread?

Miami, NYC's escape hatch. How could you expect anything but disappointment in such a place?

I moved from NYC (I'm from Manhattan) and though I come from one of the greatest cities in the world, I was able to put that behind me and give this place a chance without being biased or subjective.

Even though I've been here for almost 3 months, I can't help but express how terrible of a city it has been.

-People are rude
-People are egotistical (Why - because you drive a 3-series and live in a crowded apartment with 3 roommates? Please get over yourselves, you live in South Florida)
-Lack of culture/diversity (anybody that doesn't speak Spanish is a visitor counting down the days of when they can leave)
-No public transportation (what you have in place are Disney rides)
-No music scene (no jazz, terrible orchestra, no indie rock, experimental, etc)
-You don't pick up your dog's crap
-You don't have any interesting/new restaurants
-Lack of being in the know - understanding global issues/topics
-Lack of education
-Terrible traffic and poor city planning
-The worst drivers (and I'm from NYC). No idea of what's going on around you when driving.
-Too materialistic (blow your $30k salary on a designer purse)
-3rd highest city with salaries near poverty level
-The list goes on.

I honestly can't wait to take what I'm here for and move on to a real city.
I'm from the New York City area also ( Queens/Richmond Hill area) and I'm sure I can make a laundry list of negatives about NYC also. I will never live there again unless I was extremely wealthy and even then I'm not so sure.As they say different strokes for different folks. Please do yourself and us a favor and go back home then. We do not need a thread from another "sour graper" on how your expectations of Miami didn't live up to the reality you have encountered. Perhaps you should have done your homework first instead of thinking all of Miami was probably like your last South Beach vacation.
Have a nice life!

I am sorry but I know that 98% of people in downtown Boston do NOT say hi to everyone and smile. Maybe some suburb or one neighborhood but the majority just do not. It is not a typical thing to do.

Outside of Manhattan ,New York City is disappointing(mostly dirty),Miami is a great getaway from old cold rustbelt cities of the northeast.

people who come to the forums to vent are only looking for confirmation.
yes. miami is the worst when it comes to x.
just give them the confirmation they need, dont argue with them and they will feel better immediately.
its when you fight them that they get angry because you are going against their reality telling them the sky isnt blue.

yes it is sh*tty. yes it has a whole ton of awful. no it will never get better. are there some good things? yes. are they good enough to stay? thats up to you.
