My son is in the Coast Guard and being transferred from VA to the Opa Locka Coast Guard base. As a mom, I am worried because there seems to be a lot of problem areas around Miami. Can anyone recommend some nice areas to look at that are within 30 min. commute from Opa Locka? He is looking for a small single family home under $200,000. Is this even possible in that area of Florida?

Thanks!!

Miami Lakes is 15 minutes from Opa Locka. If you have to live in Miami-Dade, ML is one of the nicer places to be. There are a few homes under $200K, but they probably need work. He could also look in Palm Springs North.

I recommend you south of Broward County.... It will be hard to find a single house in that price range... Opa Locka surrounding areas are not safe, except for Miami Lakes, but it's very pricey.... He might try Hollywood, single houses are cheaper there than in Dade County....
