I know for a fact that at least Cubans in Miami, when they speak Spanish, they use profanities rather casually. So when they speak English there notions of what is "appropriate" is borrowed from their interactions in their own tongue. I am not generalizing all of Miami from the cubans I know, but they are a dominant demographic here (no duh). So it is embedded in the culture here, along with rudeness (for most stranger to stranger conversation), selfishness (outside of family and close friends) and some other bad characteristics.

I come from a white caucasian family in Virginia where swearing was not allowed (even today, I am in my 20's). So it generally bothers me, but only if with the person I'm with. Swearing unnecessarily simply because they can't find another word says more of the person than the "city" around us.

Yes because we all know that the only people who curse in America are those who live in Miami that come from a Cuban or foreign background!
These threads are getting dumber by the day!

That's not true and incredibly ignorant of you to say. I lived in Nashville for a decade and I never, not once, witnessed or heard of people "cussing like a drunk sailor".

The answer to that riddle is "no" because if no one is around to hear the sound it didn't exist because sound needs to be "discovered". I think it's stupid and sound exist whether you discovered it or not, and it's rather egotistical to believe if you didn't hear it, it didn't happen.

People swear all over. The lower the socio-economic status the more swear words you will find. Almost everyone curses when angry or hurt. Since Miami is full of lower end people, even those that have money, swearing is expected to be common. However, all of Florida and the south is full of "dirty" words. Only the hard core bible thumpers or those with a strict character will resist swearing.

Wow, and the Cubans I know (they are my friends and I have many of them) rarely use profanity. Way to generalize about Cubans. You could at least try to hide your ignorance better

So, you're qualified to evaluate Cuban culture. Hmmm...
