We all know Miami it's all about parties, the beach, the sun, the food but when the cover fades what's left? Are there areas (other than libraries and schools or the internet) for more quiet intellectual balanced pursuits such as literature followers, philosophers, dedicated musicians and so on ? Specially if good manners are present. I am really interested in finding little jewels scattered in this city but I need recommendations from someone who has been all around this place. Thanks!

I think there are people out there with those interests and you will find them working at research centers at UM, FIU, the hospitals or scaterred about the area randomly. This is where the internet will come in handy to help you locate them. Other then that, hang out at Barnes and Nobles or other book stores...attend conferences and lectures at local universities and you will meet people with those interests.

I would say that some areas of Coral Gables are sophisticated intellectual. Some of the old privately owned book stores in the Gables are nice places to meet these kind of people. They are hard to find, but well worth the search. Good luck!

Try getting involved with groups or organizations that defend natural areas and the environment. People engaged in these types of activities are usually educated and socially conscious. If you're lucky you'll find someone with a boat!
