hi there I am new on here....We are English and currently live in Germany and will be moving to the Miami area this Summer......Hubbie will be working in the Doral area.. Can anyone please advice as to the nice areas to live with good schools? that are approx no more than a 30 minute drive away....

Also can anyone give us some indication of the cost of living? What percentage of your monthly salary for example do most families spend on rentals? so we can gadge how much we can afford for renting a house...

does anyone know what monthly amount i would receive for normal child benefit for 2 kids...

any other advice would be greatly received...

thanks in advance!!!

Moving to miami - any advice?

Best advice I could give you - DON'T!

Seriously, you REALLY need to do your homework - 30min from Doral? Do you want that with or without traffic travel times because that may not get you that far, especially in that area, unless you hit the Turnpike out west. Can't even think of any good schools in that area, at least a good 20 minutes away without traffic. Do make sure you start teaching your children Spanish as well.

If you want to see what home rentals go for I would at the very least go on Craigslist once you see
what area you want to be in to get some kind of idea.

If I had to pick one area, not knowing what you want to spend on housing, and you definitely have to come here to live, it would have to be Coral Gables, South Miami and then Kendall areas.

Good luck!

in Germany and maybe england yes you get paid to have children.. due to low birth rates.. this is why so many people in these countries are against foreigners and want tougher immigration laws... because they come have 10 kids and dont work a day in their life. or learn the native countries language.

I work near Doral. It is full of wealthy venezuelans. It is a nice place but if you don't know spanish you won't be able to communicate most places from my experience.

Budget honey?

If your husband will get paid above $5,000, just live in the Doral area, it's very nice and in general is a new area. If not look in Kendall, but the commute is TERRIBLE, and we don't have a reliable public transportation...

My advice:

Stay in England. Better for your kids. There are no Brits in Doral LOL. You won't get a check here for having children either and your English children will not fit in in Miami, unless you can afford to send them to private school.
