Starwood to open Aloft hotel in downtown Miami | South Florida Business Journal

[LEFT]Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, which owns the W Fort Lauderdale and W South Beach, said it plans to open its first Aloft hotel in December in Miami’s Mary Brickell Village, at the southern end of the downtown area.
The new hotel will be owned and managed by a joint venture between Sunview Companies, which has a 50 percent ownership stake in Mary Brickell Village Hotel LLC and built the first phase of the mixed-use development, and HES Group, which controls Brickell Hotel Properties LLC, a new Florida entity that holds the other 50 percent stake of Mary Brickell Village Hotel LLC.
The 14-floor hotel will offer 160 loft-like rooms; intuitive and accessible technology; and a vibrant, social atmosphere, according to a news release. Amenities will include an indoor pool and nearly 3,000 square feet of flexible space for both business meetings and social gatherings.
The White Plains, N.Y.-based Starwood bills its Aloft brand, launched in 2008, as “hip” and “trendy.” with a “bold design” and social atmosphere designed to draw the next generation of travelers.
“Aloft Miami – Brickell will bring a dynamic mix of urban style and social interplay to downtown Miami, a world-renowned destination celebrated for its Latin style, nightlife and white sand beaches,” said Brian McGuinness, senior VP of Specialty Select Brands for Starwood, in a news release.
HES Group CEO Francisco Arocha said in a news release that his company hopes to develop and manage several Aloft Hotels in southeast Florida.
“There is a huge need for upscale accommodations within the select services niche in the area,” he said. “This relationship will build on our growing strategy on the fulfillment of this attractive market space.”
Starwood Hotels & Resorts said Monday that it expects to open 70 to 80 high-quality, new-build and conversion hotels in 2011, following the 72 opened and 96 new deals signed last year

This another great story for Miami...however, it would be really transformative if a fortune 500 company announced it was moving its headquarters to Miami. Still, great news. Thanks for posting.

I will be more impressed if Miami can manage to bring something in that provides actual employment with livable wages.

But if I was a company, I wouldn't come here, and I love Miami!
