Hey from the South--

I may be offered a job in Miami within the month or so; I lived in Miami for a couple of years but moved for what I THOUGHT was steadier employment. Circumstances have changed, and I may have the aforementioned opportunity.

I remember the housing collapse a few years ago, but since my field is education I was wondering if I would be in okay shape in Miami in 2011 (versus 2008).

Do things seem to be improving? Can middle-class folks find decent and affordable housing? Many of the "quirks" of Miami don't bother me, so many faults found by other posters aren't a big deal; however, the last thing I want is to relocate (again) and do this all over in a couple of years.....

Any help is appreciated!

I live in a nice apartment, close to the train. It is not as nice as my apartment in Vegas, for the same price...but that is Miami...I may say I live in a "ghetto" but it is not that bad. It just feels ghetto after where I lived in Vegas for the same amount of money. So, I rent...I am not going to buy here, even though it is probably a good deal, I don't see myself staying here...

You're probably going to have to put a number on what you consider affordable housing.

I would say a rental in the price range of 1000-1300 (preferably 3-bedroom, but not huge).

Not going to happen, unless you live way out...I had a two bedroom condo last year, for $1300. Maybe you can find some houses for rent at that price...but watch out that they are actually paying the mortgage. It depends on where you want to live, I lived in Pinecrest, close to Gulliver.

Not going to happen for a 3 bedroom. You can probably find a 2 bedroom for around 1300 in Kendall. 1000 for a two bedroom in Cutler Bay probably. The worse areas you go into you can probably find a 3 bedroom for 1300, but you don't want to live in those areas.

Three bedroom for $1000-1300? Eesh, that might be hard to come by. The further out from Miami you go, the better your chances.
