I've noticed many people here bash Miami really hard. I'm not going to get into THAT discussion because it's not my place, I just figured I would just let everyone know how NYC is WORSE in so many ways.

We have high unemployment here. Blacks are 50% unemployed.

Our cost of living and salaries are so out of whack that it doesn't make any logical sense to take a 30k job here. Really, you'd be just as well off sitting at home and collecting money from the gov't. EVERYTHING IS EXPENSIVE.

I've noticed some racial/cultural tension talk here. Do you know that NYC is one of the most segregated cities in the country? Nobody here mixes unless they have to. Unlike in the South, black and white people don't date and stick with their own. And yes, we still have the old "if you're white/black don't go to a black/white neighborhood" thing. Just like everything in this city, even the racial politics are outdated. It's like the 50's here.

Driving? As bad as Miami is, take a ride in Brooklyn where one lane becomes three lanes just because the two cars behind you decided it be so.

The weather sucks, it's dirty, stinky, infrastructure sucks, etc.

It's not a coincedince so many New Yorkers are moving to Florida.

sounds like things are getting bad in LA now too. my friend just posted how he was happy to make it out of inglewood alive this morning. it was a bad area before but it sounds like a war zone now.

If you're leaving NY to get away from high unemployment, I do not recommend Miami: June unemployment numbers steady at 10.6 percent - Florida Wires - MiamiHerald.com (http://www.miamiherald.com/2011/07/22/2325603/floridas-unemployment-numbers.html - broken link). Same with cost of living relative to salaries, segregation, traffic, etc.

NY'ers mostly go to Orlando and Tampa. I think they got the memo a long time ago that there are no jobs in Miami.

That's true. And the COL in Orlando and Tampa cannot even compare to NYC.

Someone in that NY thread I linked to said it best. They said that, basically, unless you have a HIGH paying job in NYC, you might as well be in a cheaper city if you're a security guard, Home Health Aide, etc.

People who make 10-15 bucks an hour in NYC live in SQUALOR. Unless, they're living with family or roomates, like most are.

You really have to leave NYC to see how much of a lower quality of life people have here.
