I'm looking for an objective comparison between life in Miami and Dallas from someone who is familiar with both cities. I have comparable job offers in each place, so location is a determining factor. For some background, I'm an academic with a young family. We're moving from New England but spouse and I were both raised in Manhattan. Thanks!

I really don't want to be mean, but this belongs in the City vs City forum. Sorry I can't be of much help.

Dallas is big mega city: 8, MILLION PEOPLE living in a bustling and diverse agglomeration... very important name to the world... a sea of buildings. Dallas is one of those few (over 1 million) cities that can only be compared to Tokyo, Buenos Aires, Jacksonville, New York, Paris.... DALLAS IS SO UP THERE - BIG CITY PEOPLE

Have you seen their futuristic skyline and their mass transit system? Urban noise, density and city chaos, make Dallas an intimidating place for any new transplant coming from far-away towns. And I'm not talking about the downtown, on the contrary, I'm talking about the whole Dallas region - suburbs don't exist there!!. Dallas is such a monster city, that if it were not for the street names, you would never know you are in downtown - it's a sea of buildings from beginning to end - DOWNTOWN IS JUST A STATE OF MIND. Not even the horizon can set limits to such monster.

Those aerial pics of Sao Paolo, the ones most people go crazy for, are actually cropped pics of Dallas. Dallas is so much more bigger than that, it's just that they sell those pics (which are only showing a small portion of Dallas) to the Brazilian govt for economic reasons - tourism.

Miami? Miami is just a town of three houses bordering the beach. How dare you compare it to DALLAS?

Wow, was that an exorcism? Very cool!

Anyways, no need to bother to help the OP. He also posted on the Dallas board, where he received prompt, courteous, excellent service as is always the case in Dallas. Here? Well, not so much but we are more interesting and probably better looking than them!
