I am interested in a 2000/2001 cocaine smuggling case which sent an FBI operative to prison along with three accomplices -- two local police officers and a prison guard. I want details and, optimally, court testimony. But local newspaper coverage was sparse.

Would the Miami Herald have an electronic library that covers this? How does one gain access?

The main defendant is dead now. I have his name, address and DOB. I have the offense dates and sentence date. Who could produce court information?

How should I proceed from here?

Actually, it costs to access court files, not to print them. The charge is ten cents per page with a $3.00 max per court document. However, if your total charges are less than $15 in a calendar quarter, then the judiciary waives the entire fee. So in effect, it is completely free for most individuals who only are seeking info on a particular case. (I used to work for the federal judiciary.)
