Just wanted to ask is there some major filming studios in Miami and all that because I thought about moving to Miami after Chicago but it's hard to decide. If L.A. is better and easier then I'd like to go there.
Help

I'm not aware of any filming companies we have here (not counting frequent episodes of "Cops" and the like). LA is the place for movies.

LA is expensive and hard to relocate to. Miami doesn't over things in the way of movie studios (though Telemundo and Univision have a TV presence there). You may want to consider a move to Vancouver, BC in Canada. It's known as Hollywood North.

A very good friend of mine broke into the film industry while in Miami when there were several flims being shot in South Florida a few years ago. He had no experience and pretty much lied on his resume about knowing how to use certain kinds of equipment. Once he was "in" he just watched others using the equipment and figured things out on the fly. This guy is a straight shooter, but he knew that this industry doesn't follow any kind of morals, and he would have to play the game to pursue his dream. He now lives in LA and has been very successful. I would consider South Florida as a good jumping off point, but if you want real success you will most likely need to move out to LA at some point.

everyone has a friend in the biz. Mine got into acting while here in So Fla....appearing in a number of plays. He even got some bit parts in films that were shot locally like 'Something About Mary', 'Earth to the Moon' miniseries, and some movie with Eddie Murphy & Jeff Goldblum (can't remember the name) Then he took the plunge, moved to LA, got a day job working at Disney, and went no where with his acting career. Currently he works at a PR firm out in Las Vegas.

If you don't go for your dream though...you'll never know if you coulda/woulda made it

Acting is definitely the hardest way to get into the film biz. My friend works in set design, art direction and production. He is good at all of these things, and those types of jobs are a bit less subjective then the acting/writing/directing part of filmmaking. It's always good to have a back-up plan, though!

Hi everyone, I know this thread is specifically regarding acting, but anyone know about the singing industry? I've already pretty much decided to start in Miami, I am a female vocalist looking to really start my career. What are my options there?? Any and all advice is welcome. Thanks

Orlando is a better choice for the music biz.

Really?! I have to say I'm really surprised to hear that! Can you please elaborate? What do you know about Orlando versus Miami? Thanks

Orlando is the home and capital of pop music, mainstream music and alternative rock music, including Anberlin, Britney Spears, Mandy Moore, NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys, as well as Sam Rivers, Creed, Trivium, From First to Last, Matchbox Twenty, Seven Mary Three, There For Tomorrow, Mark Fenlon, DJ Icey, DJ KJ of K5, DJ Baby Anne, DJ Jimmy Joslin and DJ Scotty B. Sister Hazel, For Squirrels and Less Than Jake are from nearby Gainesville, as is superstar Tom Petty.

The hip hop music scene, metal scene, rock music scene, Reggaeton and Latino scene, are all active within the city and is largely home to the Florida Breakbeat movement.
