I may take a job in Miami paying $80-$90k and the job is in Coral Gables.

Questions:

1. I'm looking to buy a condo (I realize a house is out of the question) in or around Coral Gables. Is this possible?

2. I grew up in Maine, college in Boston, and the past 2 years in San Diego. How does Miami compare? When I go on the Miami forums, I've never seen so many people who live in a city and talk trash about it. I'm a little concerned about crime from what I read.

3. I didn't like San Diego because most people are concerned with how much you make and what you drive (I will drive my 05 Accord into the ground), is Miami the same or worse?

4. I'm 26 y/o single male, but am not into clubs. Are there nice bars and lounges in Miami to go to, or is it all about "da club" in Mia?

Thanks all!

I laughed. Yes, cars are big in Miami. Very big. A lot of people will look down on you if you do not drive one of the following...

Bentley
BMW
Mercedes-Benz
Infiniti
Rolls-Royce
Jaguar

And honestly, to a lot of people those are average cars. Well, excluding RR and Bentley. Would anyone care to agree? I see more fancy and luxury cars in Miami than anywhere I have been in my life. It is just part of the lifestyle down in Miami. I don't live there, but I have been there many times.

1. Yes

2. Crime is not a problem, provided you're not living in Liberty City, Opa Locka, or any other ghetto. Miami, IMO, is way better than SD.

3. Drive the car you want to drive. Anyone who judges you off it is not worth anything, so actually they're doing you a favor... easy weeding out of flakes.

5. Yes, but more are needed. Feeling entrepreneurial?

I defend Miami on here often as there are some things that I like about it .. but I would not trade San Diego for Miami .. no way ... yes there are superficial people in San Diego but Miami beats it in that catagory hands down .... hell I even think Miami bests Los Angeles in that area .. Miami has warmer beaches and possibly hotter women than San Diego ... but in every other quality of life catagory San Diego is better IMO .. from the weather , to the arts , natural beauty , friendlier people , better drivers and possibly less traffic .... again just my opinion ... if you are young and single you may like Miami better than San Diego ... but I do not .

Questions:

1. I'm looking to buy a condo (I realize a house is out of the question) in or around Coral Gables. Is this possible? As someone already said, yes.

2. I grew up in Maine, college in Boston, and the past 2 years in San Diego. How does Miami compare? When I go on the Miami forums, I've never seen so many people who live in a city and talk trash about it. I'm a little concerned about crime from what I read. Crime has never been a problem for the six years I've been down here.

3. I didn't like San Diego because most people are concerned with how much you make and what you drive (I will drive my 05 Accord into the ground), is Miami the same or worse? ..I drive my 07 Altima with the same mentality. But that description is pretty spot on for Miami as well, but not everyone is the same. It all depends on who you end up surrounding yourself with. If you're going to work in Coral Gables, you can expect to find that sort of people.

4. I'm 26 y/o single male, but am not into clubs. Are there nice bars and lounges in Miami to go to, or is it all about "da club" in Mia? There are great bars and lounges in and around Downtown Miami/Brickell and up in the Biscayne corridor. Most of my 20's have been down here and that sort of nightlife has gotten better in just the last couple of years. I haven't been to any sort of "da club" in Miami since I first came here.

Thanks all!
.,
