Hollywood is better than WPB IMO given your age. There is City Place in West Palm that has young people and things to do, but there is more to do in the Ft. Lauderdale and Miami area. Also, all the professional sports are in Miami (basketball and baseball). Still, you could be happy in WPB.

If it were me, I would find a cheap place in Miami Beach or Brickell. I would live in something smaller and older, but closer to the action, especially if I were 25.

Great advice. I have looked a lot at Brickell. I was just under the impression that getting something decent in Brickell for around $800 a month is near impossible.

I get that going from Miami to FTL for a job for example would be a lot quicker because I would be going against traffic. How far apart are FTL and Miami? How about West Palm Beach from Broward County (specifically Fort Lauderdale) Then of course, you could just double the time from West Palm Beach down to Miami.

I know Hollywood is a part of Broward County. Is it right in between Fort Lauderdale and Miami. Therefore... just south of Fort Lauderdale and just north of Miami?

Depends where you are in the city and where you're going, but from Brickell to FTL is about 30 miles and from FTL to WPB is about 50 miles, so from WPB to Brickell is about 80 miles each way. It is more congested in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach County, respectively, so you'll hit more congestion the further south you go, thus more time in the car.

Again, Tri-Rail can help with this commute, though.

You can't get much cheaper than Hollywood and still be in a relatively safe area. Get a month-to-month place, maybe even an efficiency, so if you get a job in Miami you can move at the end of the month. For nightlife you've got the Las Olas Riverfront, Fort Lauderdale Beach, and the Hard Rock to keep you busy. You have to drive to these places anyway, and so do 99% of the crowd you'd hang out with. It's nothing like NYC where living "in the city" is such a big deal.

Incidentally, Fort Lauderdale to an actual destination in South Beach will take much longer than 40 minutes. 40 minutes (30 from Hollywood) is your onramp-to-offramp time...assuming you're speeding at the usual 10-15 mph over the limit.

Reason I suggested PBC was because there is a lot more low end jobs readily available than in Miami-Dade. Miami is basically saturated with people looking for work, WPB is not. Broward is in between but I think finding a place to live in and around Ft. Lauderdale is harder than in PBC given the price range.

Having the parties next to you is fun, but it does not pay the bills. Many people get all excited coming here, finding a room mate or some dirt cheap room for rent on in MB, then they end up hating the whole place because they have all ready set themselves up for being disappointed.
