I am a 25 year old recent college graduate and I am looking to move to South Florida in the fall. I have been in contact with agents from rent1sale1 and they are looking for places for me according to my preferences so I won't list all of those. I have been in touch with agents in Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, and Miami. The two main reasons I am moving from Maine to South Florida are because my bachelors degree in Communications (concentration in marketing and/or advertising) has a lot more of a chance of being useful in the area than here in Maine. And the other reason is that I have simply always wanted to live in South Florida. My main question is which of the 3 places (Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Miami) would you recommend to me in terms of jobs, being nice, nightlife, beaches, and just simply life in general. Thanks so much everyone. ****If you don't mind give me reasons as to why you believe this.

On a side note...I have hard good things about Brickell (an urban neighborhood of Miami I believe). I hear it is nice and good for jobs. One of the agents also recommended the performing arts center as an area of Miami. What is this? He also mentioned West Brickell near the river? Just looking for some help.

Brickell is the financial center of Miami, just south of downtown. It's essentially the "nice" part of downtown.

He might have meant the Gusman Center in the middle of downtown Miami or the Adrienne Arsht Center at Biscayne & 14th.

P.S. The general consensus at this forum is that moving to Miami without having a job lined up is risky. Good jobs are not a dime a dozen there.

I would have to say he was referring to the Arsht Center, not Gusman.

What is you budget and housing requirements, OP?

Although you are already working with an agent, they can be in it more for the sale (or rental) than putting you some place you would get the most out of your time in SoFla.

I would not recommend the area up by Arsht, i.e.- Midtown (some consider it Downtown, I consider anything north of the McA Causeway and anything south of the JT Causeway and anything east of 95 to be Midtown) as it is still being developed and is up and coming.

I prefer Miami more as its more diverse compared to the other. Its just being around Coconut Grove/Gables. Downtown, the beaches make it much better compared to Broward

Without some idea of price, it is hard to make a rec.

Brickell is nice, I live here, but it is expensive, if money is no problem for you then heck, live in Brickell.

I would find a cheap as heck place up in Broward or PBC, then once you get a real job, I would move to the location best suited for you.

I personally prefer Borward and PBC over Miami, but living in Brickell I live next door to where I work.

I do get that jobs are not a dime a dozen...however I have about $15,000 saved up for cash and I have a good bachelors degree so I am in hopes I could find something eventually. When I first moved there I would try and find some quick job at a restaurant or some store in mall while I am applying for jobs that have to do with my degree.

Say I found a job in Hollywood...would that be a long commute from Brickell or downtown Miami?

Is Broward just north of Brickell but still part of Miami?

I have had companies contact me since my resume is on careerbuilder. I flew down to Fort Lauderdale for an interview with a company about 8 months ago and I was a finalist for it but didnt get it. Bottom line is...I cant constantly pay for flights and hotel stays for interviews on jobs I may not even get. Plus, I have always wanted to live in South Florida. Just trying to decide if Miami or Fort Lauderdale is the best for me in terms of jobs and lifestyle. I have kind of ruled Hollywood out.
