Comcast to launch $10 internet service for low-income families
I thought this article may be of interest to some in the SOFLA area:

Comcast to launch $10 internet service for low-income families | Technology News Blog - Yahoo! News

Teachers may find this helpful information for their students who come from low-income families. A net book can also be purchased for $149

Not sure where they will be rolling this idea out, but worth looking in to if you're interested and think you'd qualify.

Sounds like a good idea. Now those families can help their children, or help themselves (hopefully) find better jobs.

Are they? I bet they will raise prices for the rest of us to make up for their "generosity".

Comcast isn't thinking about low-income families. This was FCC mandated. I'm sure the cost will be passed on to customers paying full price.
"When Comcast acquired NBC a number of months ago, the FCC mandated that the company help low-income families get connected."

I am sure they get tax breaks for this, plus additional money they wouldn't get at all. So this isn't a give away. Not really concerned w/ people who need this getting a break.

I am amazed at how people think all these poor people are getting a free ride at their expense. Right up there w/ luxury living at the state pen. Some people can be so petty.

Shame you need to have children though. Many could use it for school, jobs etc... They could make far more money w/ a wider user base and cheaper cost.

They are missing business from people who simple cannot afford it. When cell phones came down and plans everybody, just about got cell phones. The days of thinking Americans will just pay and pay are over. For awhile anyway.

I bet Comcast will also have a nice, steep non-refundable deposit...installation fee, insurance plan and a must purchase equipment plan as well. And what speed internet as well.

Speed will be 1.5. Not great, but better than dialup. That's the top speed ATT provides in my area. I tried to avoid Comcast as long as possible but ATT wouldn't upgrade here.
