I want to buy a insulated concrete block house in Miami. I called a realtor about it he didn't even know what that was I think it's also known as insulated concrete form or ICF. How do I go about finding a home that is in insulated concrete form

Because a poured foundation is not common in Florida due to high water tables and heat (amongst other things). They are more common in the Northern parts of the US.

You are going to have to buy a vacant lot and build your home. There just aren't many ICF homes in Miami. It hasn't caught on. Most homes are build with conventional concrete blocks and stucco, which isn't bad at all. Why are you so interested in having an ICF built home, what are the pluses?

They are much stronger than concrete block, it's reinforced, poured concrete. They are also more energy efficient. I think you're right about building one, unfortunately, most builders use conventional methods. Mercedes Homes uses icf's, but I'm not sure if they have anything in Miami.

Just make sure you get a concrete roof too, almost all "concrete" homes here have a wood roof, which will punish you if you live in the home for any length of time.

Good luck finding a home in Miami with a concrete roof. The only area where you can find a home with a concrete roof is in the Keys.
