You forget the West Indian groups(Haitians, Jamaicans, Bahamians, etc).

Who knows? Maybe it was a Wikipedia error. That's where I saw it.

I know better than to say that a Nicaraguan and Chilean are the "same," or that a Trinidadian and Bahamian are the same, but I don't call that diversity in the grand scheme of things. We don't have a lot of Asians (that includes the Middle East and South Asia) or Africans here. That's 3/4 of the world's population not represented here in large numbers!

Miami is 20% black; that is one-in-five residents. They outnumber white (non-Hispanic) residents, who stand at 12% of the population. You're right about Asians...They make up just 1.0% of the population...3,953 out of 399,457 people.

Miami Stats from 2010 Census

I believe that diversity is when all ethnic groups live side by side sharing their lives.
A city divided in ethnic ghettos is not diverse, no matter if you have 350 nationalities that speak 500 languages.
Diversity is not having a Tibetan living next corner, that you only know that he's Tibetan because somebody told you.
Diversity is not a rich assortment of ethnic restaurants.
Anyways, in all developed countries "diversity" and "multiculturalism" are just political abstractions, buzzwords.

Black people in Miami are not Africans, it's like saying everyone in Miami, besides blacks, are Europeans or Middle Easterners.

get a dictionary. diversity means "variety". it does not carry any implication that 'ALL' nationalities and cultures of the human race must be represented, for variety/diversity to exist.

a variety of different nationalities and cultures are indeed present in Miami. it doesn't matter that "all" of them from across the whole planet are not here - there is a variety..... there is diversity.
