south beach will be expensive, and a bit far. Look in South Miami, Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, Coral Way etc.

A friend of mine rents a small studio on South Beach for 650, so its not that expensive. South Miami is a good suggestion, but I would still suggest the Brickell area being the first choice. You will be going against rush hour traffic so your commute to UM shouldn't be too bad. South Beach would be my second suggestion. Then South Miami or Coral Gables.

the commute isnt that bad, as far as length. its the traffic in rush hour thatll kill you. brickell is right inbetween UM and SB that would be your best bet

Bicycling around everywhere is not very safe anywhere in Miami, but South Beach is much more bike-friendly than Brickell, Coconut Grove, and South Miami. Not surprising, you see many more people getting around by bike in South Beach, whereas elsewhere people pretty much drive everywhere that's not in easy walking distance. South Beach to UM commute (either campus) would be easy if you drive, but it would take at least an hour by transit, and I often hear that the S bus in the morning gets so crowded sometimes you have to wait for the next one!

If you drive, not really. If you dont drive, you are out of luck because getting from the beach To UM by public transportation is not easy. You woyld have to live in Coral Gables and give up easy access to the beach.

If you love the beach, stay in the beach. Don't bother with Brickell, its less walkable than what most people want you to believe and its not that special either.

I would have suggested Coconut Grove, especially near the mayfair.

THANK YOU all for the suggestions. I am on my 3rd day here and still looking. Have been looking at places in SoBe and a couple in Brickell. I am finding out that my company picked the worst time to send me down here because everyone has been saying rent goes up in the winter. Looked at some places on west miami beach like flamingo and southgate towers and checking out some smaller apartments tomorrow. Thanks again and I am open to any more suggestions!

Flamingo is a nice project. Lots of people your age to hang out with. However, I prefer Brickell. I really like how Brickell is growing up. I am from the northeast so the urban vibe of Brickell is more appealing to me. Good luck!
