They should also revamp govt station, build something like grand central or penn station in downtown. That is the center of the city, should be a crown jewel of a place.

I wish they could but Central Station by the airport is going to be our "grand train station." Makes sense. Connects directly to the airport, rental cars, amtrack, Metrorail, buses and trirail. With the proposed Metrorail expansion from Central Station it makes sense.

Yes but Central does not connect to downtown and as tallrick pointed out there is no east-west connecting track. Hardly intermodal. Additionally, crossing grades and signaling need to be installed all over downtown Miami. Can you envision downtown traffic waiting on trains all day long? There is a good reason that Metro is elevated in that area.

How does central not connect to downtown? Metrorail goes right into downtown.

The Metrolink is an APM, not an extension of the Metrorail track to MIA. "The AirportLink will provide residents and visitors with direct Metrorail link to MIA via an Automated People Mover" It will require a transfer between points, its not a continuous line into the city.

than can have two major hubs. NYC has penn station and grand central. The one by the airport make that your grand central and make the auxiliary one in downtown miami. The one at the airport should definetly be grander in scale but the one downtown could make up for it in architectural beauty.

GREAT idea! However I think a stop at Ives Dairy road would be good too. With bus transfers to aventura mall and Sunlife Stadium.
There are plans for an "Aventura" station, but I guess that particular reporter forgot we're still in Miami-Dade County A station at the vacant lot a couple blocks south of Ives Dairy would be in easily walkable to the mall as well as several nearby office buildings and condos...PROVIDED that there are overpasses across the tracks and US1. I just hope Tri-Rail doesn't take the same approach as they do with most of their stations--(semi-)convenient access only by car and bus transfer.

The "Miami Central" metrorail station is pretty impressive architecturally, at least in the renderings. It's just buried behind a boxy, ugly rental car garage. Much like the new Marlins stadium is hidden behind a row of Soviet-era block structures (aka, parking garages). Gotta love the curb appeal, no?

I think there should be stations where there is more density per kilometer square (always comparing withing county borders). My hood should be a main priority, for example.
