And there are also many people in NYC with money who will never take those trains

And I would rather be stuck in traffic than being on a busy train or bus. I can still listen to the radio, in a train I would be stuck listening to some homeless Guy asking for money or singing for money, .... or worse yet, I would have to listen to some hipster's tacky performance.

Do not worry, peak oil is going to reduce the number of cars on the roads. Meanwhile, I am enjoying my free driving thanks to my plastic to diesel reactor.

Public transportation is an experience. Even when something goes wrong, like a smelly homeless guy boarding the bus without paying and then parading up and down the aisle while screaming obscenities before exiting and banging on the bus windows as it drives away...at least you end up amused/entertained.

The fact that there are some wealthy people who dont take mass transit doesn't negate the fact a TON of them do. As for the other stuff about listening to music, errr, what?! You have obviously never been to NYC.

sooo true because that (harassment) happens every day on mass transit. And it NEVER happens at stores, workplace, walking down the street etc.

Public transit is a great thing for any city and all top notch cities have good public transit systems with the only "world" city exception of LA. Which is better than Miami's anyway.

Are their "wackos" on public transit? Of course there are! Just like there are crazy, dangerous drivers on the road. Living in DC without a car public transit was great! Along with being a zip car member I had no problems doing anything in the area. I enjoy driving very much, but if it became too expensive or too much of a hassle to drive I would take public transit. It is also nice to not have to worry about driving home going out to a bar. The "wackos" I have seen and dealt with in metros in Barcelona, DC, NYC, LA etc.. are far less dangerous and scary than the drivers on the streets in Miami. Miami needs public transit and that is one of the very few things I think taxes could be raised (very slightly .5penny) for. If casinos come to town public transit and education need to be the two areas of funding that they put into the most because I think those are the two things which are currently hurrting this city the most. Anyone who is "against" public transit is really not thinking straight. You do not need to use it every day but it is only good for our city.

Would love to know how I am catching HIV (not AIDS) or Hepatitis in a train or bus? Unless something goes stabbing people with used needles. Can't tell if there is sarcasm there or not..

So much oil in this world that has not been explored due to low prices. Just think about how much oil is untouched in the US. That is for another topic. But with rising prices yes, there will be less cars. That is why Miami needs to get on public transit yesterday.
