Biscayne Park and Miami Shores are still considered in the coastal zone, Citizens may well be the only game in town now... Still, $800 is a huge increase, I wonder if the amount of coverage or deductibles changed when you changed companies? I would definitely talk with a qualified agent as suggested above.

This has got to be the slowest response on a forum ever. It took over a year to answer 1973.

Teachprek, I don't know what other insurance companies may be writing homeowner's insurance in your area, but in your shoes I'd call around to independent insurance agencies and see what they have to offer. Unfortunately none of the big insurance companies will write homeowner's insurance anywhere in Florida ( not just Miami), so you're stuck either with Citizens'- which as the "insurer of last resort" charge rates higher than other companies, or some small (IMO questionable) companies with no history who haven't been around long enough to see how they pay claims in a disaster.

As others have mentioned, you'll likely get good information by calling some of those insurance agents, in addition to finding companies that may insure your home, you can discuss options like deductibles, and payment plans that might help with your pocketbook a little.

Good luck!
