Miami Dade only has limited 4 year degrees and nothing more, FIU goes all the way to doctorate programs. Most MDC degrees are 2 year associates, or simply certificates.

Up until a couple years ago,Miami Dade College was Miami Dade Community College, meaning it was only a two year school to get an associates degree. As a PP mentioned they have added a few 4 year programs giving them the ability to call themselves a college.FIU is a major university where students can get everything from associates and bachelors degrees to masters and doctorates like the other major universities around the country. The admission standards will probably be tougher at FIU as well as probably being more expensive.

You don't need much info my friend. It is very very very very very very simple. Please take this advice. DON'T GO TO MDC It used to be MDCC, a community college which is fine for someone who wants to get a 2 year degree and some education. Not fine for someone who wants to get a 4 year degree and possibly go to graduate school or honestly get hired. There is nothing wrong with going to MDC, better to get a degree than not, BUT, FIU is a real college and has always had a four year program. It has many graduate schools, and is only improving. It is getting better and more respected every day. Your coming from out of Florida. So unless you plan on becoming a Florida resident anytime soon I would suggest ou look at the University of Miami also since you won't be saving a huge amount of money going to FIU. At least I do not think so.

Univerisity of Miami is a much better school than either of them.

But short, and simple advice. FIU over MDC and it is not even close, no way to compare the two schools. If these are the only two schools you are looking at your decision should be made after reading this. Trust me on this!

Basically students who didn't have the best grades in high school tend to go with Miami Dade more, maybe they can't get in to a major university, maybe they prefer the lower MDC prices, maybe they don't know what they want to do and would feel more comfortable at MDC.You can still get a 2 year degree at MDC as well as a few 4 year ones, most of the 2 year degrees are transferrable to major universities,so after you get an associates in whatever major you choose you can then transfer to FIU or another university to get a bachelors.

Yeah that's what i thought but my cousins go there so they say it's good but then again they did not get good grades in high school so I don't think they had much choice. I mite just start in MDC since is easier for me to prove that I'm a Florida resident there and then transfer to FIU, I've been told is easy to transfer is that true?

I am a student and an employee at FIU and I would say Miami Dade College is great to start of with an Associates degree and then transfer to FIU to finish your Bachelor's degree. If money isn't an issue I would say to do all four years in FIU. Miami Dade College is really a commuter school and you won't get much of the college life experience there. FIU has definitely changed and grown in the past 9 years that I have been here. Has more of a college feel to it and a lot of on campus activities. Depending on whether you want that experience or not is up to you. Good luck!

If you do well/decent not really sure how well you have to do, you should be able to transfer but nothing is certain. If you get good grades at MDC you should be able to transfer into FIU.
