I have visited the areas (Mainly the grove) briefly about two or three times and I fell in love with the beauty and vibe of both places. I like how well-shaded they are by the canopies (which is what really caught my attention), and the artsy old-Florida funkiness that the Grove has.

What is it like actually living in Coral Gables & Coconut Grove?

Like most of Dade county, is spanish speaking prominent in those places? I have no problem with it but I don't know a lick of spanish, so that's why I'm asking.

Also, what is the city of South Miami like?

Coconut Grove feels more... lazy (?), I don't know how to explain that, but Coral Gables is more elegant/serious like. I'm very familiar with CC, not so with CG... I only know that there are too many laws to live by in CG.

I believe Coconut Grove is more white non-Hispanic as opposed to Coral Gables and South Miami.

I'm not sure between Coral Gables and South Miami which is more Hispanic, but I would say from my experience it would be South Miami.

Regardless, you'd be fine living in all three and not knowing Spanish.

Coconut Grove isn't all that Hispanic. Coral Gables and South Miami are a little more, though Spanish isn't prevalent in the sense that it is in West Kendall or Sweetwater.

Coconut Grove is more naturally beautiful than Coral Gables as it has a larger tree canopy and fronts Biscayne Bay. Coral Gables is more structured, appears more refined, better architectural aesthetics. I would agree with others that Coconut Grove feels less Hispanic than other parts of Miami. Coconut Grove also has a large sailing community and seems to offer more community events than Coral Gables.

I worked in Coral Gables for several years and the hispanic people who live and work there are usually second generation immigrants or non immigrants and speak fluent English. Now that doesn't mean that you won't find the occasional part time resident from latin America. Coral Gables is one our more Ritzy areas and is occupied by professionals who tend to speak at least English if not more.

Understand that the Latinos in Coral Gables are generally the upper crust of Miami's Latino community, mostly educated Cubans. Also, as someone else said, they're mostly native Americans rather than immigrants.
