I am a 25 year old single male currently living in Northern NJ with my best friend. I work for Enterprise Rent-a-Car and have completed their management training program (Please refrain from making negative evaluations about employer). I was born and raised in New Jersey and all of my family, including parents, have moved out of New Jersey. Other than a few friends my connections to NJ are thin and I think it may be time to move on.

I have the option to transfer with Enterprise to Miami where I have family that will allow me to live with them rent free for a year or so (Kendall). Currently, I pay $750-800 a month for rent and utilities. I will be much happier living with family rather than basically being all by myself up here. I am pretty financially disciplined and this will allow me to save even more money than I am now despite taking a pay cut of a few thousand dollars. I have wanted to move to Florida for quite a while and now I have an opportunity to do so.

My one major concern is the Florida job market. If I did decide to one day leave Enterprise I feel the job opportunities would be less in Florida than NYC. I would be looking for a decent sales job if I did leave Enterprise. Additionally I have worked in politics and would consider obtaining a master in public policy if
finances one day allow. I do, however, enjoy my job and have no plans to leave.

Does this move make sense and are the benefits above enough to outweigh my concerns. Thanks in advance for your help.

do it... no wife and kids and a chance to live in miami rent free???

no brainer... No one is kicking you out of NYC so you can always go back if it doesnt work out... Worry about getting another job when that bridge comes up.

Good luck...

yes, absolutely - you are ahead of the game with a job and a place to live already set up .... you have a good amount of time to familiarize yourself and be able to leisurely learn about the area and the job market for the future - go for it!

well let's do the Pros & Cons:

Pros: single, no kids, secured job, rent free living, and Florida has no personal state or city income tax either.

Cons: I can't think of any right now!

I'd go for it. But I would definitely pay for my keep, even with family. It's only right.

25 your just starting your career, so this is a good time to move if you wanted to move. I agree if you want to move to Miami for a few years, be close to family etc. it would be a nice idea. But career wise, the NE has a much better career opportunities in my opinion. You might me hindering your career with a move to Miami. But you would be closer to family if you decide int he next 10 years to settle down, get married and have a family.
