They are offering a hourly salary of $17.50. It is a reduction of the amount of I get in Seattle ($22.10) The job tops at $19.21. Can one survive there? Rent living etc.
I heard the design district was reasonable but still shady. The recruiter said Brickell. But the rent looks outrageous. I have no kids just pets that can come later..

I lived there in 1996. Which is long ago. Any tips? Suggestions? Advice?

Thank you kindly...

Why do you want to move if you are going to get a reduction in salary? Is it the weather or something else that attracts you to the area. Miami is more expensive than Seattle, so you are definitely losing on both ends. I would not consider Brickell. The rents are to high and the sq. footage is small. Look into the South Miami and east Kendall areas.

According to that calculator you need 30% more money in Seattle to have equal living in Miami.

I think they just announced mass layoffs. I remember an article Miami Herald last Friday.

I asked. The recruiter said that was more of the admin staff. I would be clinical. She said that its stable employment.

I am surprised by that. Seattle isn't cheap but real estate prices along with insurance and property taxes are lower than in Miami.

Yes, I would be concerned with job stability, regardless of the positions affected, after hearing that they just went through massive layoffs.

Won't need to worry about that renting. Not sure how it is in Washington but no state income tax in FL. What will be more is car insurance. I second looking in South Miami. I also suggest looking at dadeland. Try to live near a metrorail station so you don't need to drive to work.

UM hospital is one of the better hospitals down here. UM hospital is also part of the Ryder trauma center one of the best and busiest trauma centers in the country.

No state income tax in WA either. I think housing is pretty expensive in Seattle, but I'm sure homeowner's insurance is way cheaper there. The transportation costs for both cities (includes insurance) are about the same. Seattle is actually a tiny bit higher. I don't find car insurance to be high here, but it could be because my husband and I are 50 with safe driver records and no expensive cars. Health insurance, homeowners insurance and real estate taxes are what take up most of our $$$$.
