I was born and raised on Shorty's BBQ growing up in Miami. My father took us there every Sunday night for dinner back in the late 1960's. The smell of the BBQ permeated every cell in my body. There was always a line to get in, and my sisters and I would stand at the screened in window by the kitchen and watch them put together the orders. Shorty's had the best pulled pork sandwich hands down. Also their Cole slaw and corn on the cob was the best ever too. Their Cole slaw was the creamy type and their corn on the cob was the sweetest and most tender I have ever had even to this day I have not found corn that is comparable.
Now as for the Cole slaw I have been working on duplicating the recipe for 55 years, and believe I have come pretty close to Shorty's version. I have never really measured the ingredient I just go by taste, but I will give it a try and hopefully come close.
This is a very creamy Cole slaw recipe.
1 medium head - Green cabbage, small grate
1/4 to 1/2 of an onion - small grate, depends on how much onion you like.
white vinegar, probably 1/4 Cup
celery seed, 2 Tablespoons
sugar, 1/4 to 1/2
mayonnaise, 2 cups
Again I make this recipe and taste it as I go.

I don't even like cole slaw but I'll eat it if it's from Shorty's.

I've eaten at Shorty's hundreds of times and never tasted the cole slaw. Never tempted, based on my opinion of cole slaw.

They ask me if I want fries or slaw. I depend on my facial expression as sufficient.

I concede that slaw does look more interesting than most. I remember my dad gobbling it down during his later years.

Shortys is the best, period. I love when I can visit their pinecrest/Kendall location, but if not, the Stirling and university is almost as good. I avoid their Doral location

I can't remember their slaw, but I'll order it next time I go. Their fries are real good, and thinking of the corn in the cob is making my mouth water ♡♡♡♡♡

FYP

That may have been true a few decades (or longer) ago, but no more. Now they are just another average chain BBQ joint. (Although admittedly, their cole slaw is still fantastic.)

If you want to try a BBQ joint that is just as good now as it was 50 years ago, head on down South Dixie Hwy. until you hit Homestead and then stop in at Shiver's BBQ.
