Definetly, and as you said there is the toll but if you live in Surfside you might as well get the flat rate bay pass. But I just think of it going west on the streets with all those lights making up very little ground.

i live at 85th St., so i take the route down Collins to 41st, & turn right... 41st St. becomes Rte. 112... goes right to the airport, about 25 minutes sans traffic.
Do you ever take Alton instead of Collins to 41st? Which is quicker?

I can't vouch for general times, but whenever I've tried to go Julia Tuttle to Collins in the evening, it takes forever to get through 41st ST and make the left turn.

No, i haven't done the Alton road route; and so far i've only been to the the airport during off-hours... so never any traffic; i don't know how it is during high-traffic times.

the way i go avoids I-95 altogether, it's 112-W only.

I really want to be on the water or within a block or two of the beach. Bay Harbor Islands, Surfside and North Bay Village all seem like possibilities. Is there anything that I should know about those areas or what are some of the pros and cons? Thank you in advance.
Bay Harbor Islands is very nice, you have nice restaurants and its walkable. We rented for a year before buying down there. There's also a nice smaller market on the southside of Kane Concourse, forget the name though.

You have the water all around you, the beach is just over the bridge.

I'm currently renting a condo at 65th & Collins and drive back and forth to West Miami (195 --> 95 --> 836) almost every day. I've taken both routes multiple times at various times of the day and have found that Alton is quicker and much more serene than battling traffic on Collins and on 41st.

It's only a matter of time before you start seeing traffic calming and actual enforcement of the 30 mph speed limit. It's only a viable commuter route because you can get away with 40-45 and there are no lights or stop signs.

I see "actual enforcement" several times a week, but that's not a concern for me because I don't drive 40-45. I usually get in the right lane, set my cruise control at 33-34 (to ensure that I don't speed in that area), and then relax and enjoy the stress-free, serene drive to/from 195. Much better than Collins to/from 41st.

Ahhh, this seems to be a pro-Surfside thread! We are relocating to Miami with a 6 year old 1st grader and my husband would be working downtown.

I'm trying to find out more info about Ruth K Broad K-8. I would love to hear from anyone who has/had kids in this school.

From what I have read on the internet the area seems like a great place.

Hi, my husband and I with a 8 yr old son are moving to Miami. We were living in Boston which was literrally awesome except for horrible winters! I ran an extensive search to find a safe place with high ranked elementary school , also not too far from jackson memorial hospital. My search ended up with coral cables and bay harbor Island. I really appreciate if you could kindly give me more information. Or anyother place you recommed. Million thanks
