I agree, the only significant architectural area of the Miami Herald Building is the front portico but it isn't that rare or unique to begin with. The rest of the exterior is rather mainstream for the era. While I feel that it could be saved and incorporated into the new design it will never be the same. A perfect example of this is the Sears Tower across the street. They saved the tower but demolished the rest of the building. The tower is dwarfed by the new performing arts center and lost all of its former elegance and grandeur. Another example is going to be the old Bacardi headquarters just up the street on Biscayne Boulevard. The new owners are going to add a few Frank Gehry (not to crazy about most of his designs) designed buildings to the complex. No matter how nice those buildings turn out to be they are definitely going to take away from the architecturally significant buildings already there. In the end the Herald building will be demolished regardless of whether the casino is built or not, the location is prime and the land is just too valuable.
