I am moving to Miami soon, working in the vicinity of JMH downtown. I would love to live in North Beach, Surfside, etc, but I have to take public transport.

From my research it seems like the commute on public transport would be brutally long and there are no good public transport connections to these areas, am I right?

What about South Beach?

It would be brutally long, well over an hour. South Beach would be more practical. Route M would be direct, but a limited schedule. If not M, then S or 120 to downtown and then Metrorail. Best option would be live near Metrorail on the mainland though.

Live near a metrorail on the mainland it will make things sooooooo much easier. In south beach you would have to take a bus over to omni station or government center to get to the metrorail. Or maybe there is a direct bus.

Rail is much quicker than bus obviously.

Miami-Dade has a trip planner that allows you to enter any two addresses and then it will spit out exactly what public transportation options are available to/from the locations and exactly how long it will take to get from one to the other. This will assist you in determining whether your proposed commute to JMH will be feasible.

It's a shame that North Beach won't work for you because it really is a great area and I love living here.
