Were the professors any good? I was thinking of taking a Portuguese class that's offered as noncredit at the downtown campus. Looks like it's a fixed fee and doesn't matter if you are a Florida resident or not. I'm probably going to be moving to Miami this summer from California.

Do you know how to speak spanish. If you do than it is going to be easier for you to learn Portuguese since it has a lot of similarities.

Yeah, I know some Spanish and some Portuguese too but my grammar and speaking skills are atrocious. I lived in South America for a while. It probably would have been better to take Portuguese before going there but it's really hard to find Portuguese classes in California. They don't offer it at the university I'm going to now, nor at the local community college. That's why I'm kind of enthused about finally being able to take a proper class.

These are the weekend classes? If so, I did with my wife for Brazilian Portuguese I and II. Provided a very good primer on grammar and aspects of pronunciation. We also supplemented outside of class with CD audio lessons. This one:
Portuguese (Brazilian) I: Learn to Speak and Understand Portuguese with Pimsleur Language Programs, 2nd Revised Edition (Comprehensive): Pimsleur: 9780743500197: Amazon.com: Books

We thought it was worthwhile. Our instructor was a native Brazilian.

Traveled to Brazil later in the year on business & pleasure and found it useful.

Go to ratemyprofessor.com. You can go and see reviews from students on professors they took. College students go there while they're picking their classes.

Yeah, I know ratemyprofessor.com but for some reason the MDC website doesn't have the name of the professors listed for continuing education classes. The MDC site is bad in general. For the regular credit classes you can't see the schedule unless the class is still open. Weird cause on all the other college websites you can even see the schedules for the previous 2 or more semesters.

I've taken French 1,2,3, Italian 1,2,3, Portuguese 2,3, Chinese 1,2, and German 1 and I know they also have a Russian class. I've taken them in both Interamerican and Wolfson campuses. I can recommend a few professors if you'd like

boa sorte com teu portugues!
