Moving to Miami, need advice on finding an apartment. Already have a job and will be in the area this week working and finding an apartment. Need to move in next week. Budget is $1000/month for a one bedroom one bathroom, and that’s a stretch, hoping to find something closer to $800/month. Cost and safety are the priorities. Only have 2 years of high school Spanish but learn quick. Hope to find something in the area of Coral Gables, Brickell, Coconut Grove or Aventura. Is this realistic? Does rental usually include electric? What other expenses should we know about? Do we go through a real estate agent or go to the apartment complex and try to locate a manager? Does anybody know of any apartments that are available? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

$800 is a extremely unrealistic price range for the areas you mentioned. Well I guess you might be able to find something in North Grove. (Bad area)

Finding a good location and safe would be very hard. You will also need to go with a loft/studio no way you are getting a one bedroom for $800-$1000. Finding something in a week won't be easy. And rent usually does not include electricity. Also some buildings won't have parking.

Thanks for the advice. More questions How is the market in those areas? Even at $1000, are there 1 bedroom, 1 bath or studio apartments available? Where are the available apartments advertised? Who do you deal with, a property manager or a real estate agent?

You might be able to find an agent but not sure many will want to take time looking for things in those price ranges. There are older, small buildings in all those areas your best bet is to look and then give us the addresses of the place which fit your price range. We can tell you if the area is horrible or if its ok to be there. Not sure where online they list rentals. Hopefully someone else can. I also suggest you look in Miami Beach and Downtown. There are some smaller older buildings in both those places too. Anything under $1,300 or so it won't be easy to find an actual one bedroom in any decent area. You will certainly want to be ok with a studio if you want a better area of town.

What a find, pretty cheap and in a nice beachside neighborhood! Congrats! Just, if you haven't done it yet, it's good to check the building's reputation (and reviews); on the ApartmentRatings and ApartmentReviews sites, plus a quick Google search on it.

North Grove bad??? What? North Grove is the best part of Coconut Grove, I think you mean SouthWest Grove.

Bay Heights is part of North Grove, the nicest and safest parts of the Grove are in North Grove, and the OP would never be able to afford to rent those house they are $3,000 and up to rent.

As for Sunny Isles, not a bad choice, it's a nice area and close to Aventura and Miami Beach. Good Job.
