I think when the Heat won last year the city finally embraced it as a quirky attribute to the culture down here.

What "white privilege" are you talking about? Last time I checked affirmative action and other benefits in the U.S. are only for people who were born non-white. That should give you an idea about who are really privileged in this country.

It is also interesting how the insecure and possibly uneducated seem to take offense to the 25 things to know. Why would anyone not be able to see the humor in this article?

Because we have the city data morality monitors passing judgement on anything that isn't put out by a PR firm or Chamber of Commerce. It's only "funny" when they trash their previous hometowns, in other forums, but if you poke fun at Miami's issues you're mad, angry and a troll that went too far....sigh.

I'm not here to discuss the legitimacy of white privilege, and if you are in fact trying to claim affirmative action makes minorities privileged in our society I have nothing more to discuss with you.

"Funny" is subjective... some people find beheading videos to be funny, entertaining and cool. "It's funny cuz it's true... ahahahha... that's what they do to Chechens up there lololololollol [tears of happiness]"

You brought up the idea so I'll be happy to debate it. How are "whites" the privileged ones when minorities are the ones who receive free benefits and handouts for simply being non-white? What about the Dayton, Ohio and New York police departments, which lowered the test score passing ranges specifically because African-American trainees weren't scoring high enough? The thought that the average white person in the U.S. is privileged simply for their race is a load of **** and a clearly bigoted idea.

It's tough to dispute a noticeable presense of inadequate drivers . The general pay scale contrasted to the cost of living might also be challenging for a new resident . I feel that labelling a majority as "dumb" might have been better stated by discussing the lack of education .

Keep in mind that his examples are directed to a transplanted resident (from the northeast specifically) , earning 30K a year income , and facing a 1K a month rent . In short he points to a new arrival who might face culture shock and financial struggle . In short moving is very different than a vacation.

He cites examples of the adult who still lives at home with his parents (and grandparents) , leases a somewhat upscale vehicle, and for the most part never really grows up until late adulthood . It's that lack of independence perhaps that he finds odd. Whether its fueled by the job market or cultural is not clearly expressed in his opinion nor is there any evidence presented to support his claims.

I don't know how he could place a positive spin on his presented topics like pretentiousness , hypocrisy, and insecurity. Those major themes appear to be the undercurrents of why he expressed that despite the great weather he feels some will feel out of place and leave.
