Did they tone down the regional accents in Dexter, or is this basically what people in Miami sound like?

Yeah, that's pretty much ONE of the accents you hear in Miami - There are many accents in Dexter as well, if I remember correctly. There are many accents down here, and due to this, we don't really have a strong accent signature.

To me, Batista is rather Noo Yawk-sounding (no R's). Dexter and other non-Hispanic whites don't sound especially Southern.

By the way, Lumen is supposed to be from Minnesota. I can't tell if it's her accent or voice that I find very grating.

It's Julia Stiles' voice, it's always bothered me too but I really like her.

Batista, you can tell that he's not comfortable speaking spanish and his spanish isn't that good. He's a good actor though.

Laguerta is supposed to be cuban? LMAO

Oh, and the worst part is that they show Mexican gang members in Miami abd they sound mexican. LOL

But I love the show.

Honestly though, THE Miami accent, once you get to know it, you can tell a person is from Miami from a mile away. It is especially noticeable on women.
