My family and I are moving to Miami, FL. What are some good communities to start looking at? I will be working at Doral, FL. We have two young children so schools are important. We are in the 180k-200k range.

Any suggestions?

'look elsewhere' comes to mind, but no, no suggestions. Hopefully someone can help you with better advice.

The elementary schools in Miami aren't that bad, its when your kids get into Middle andHigh School that schools become a priority of which ones are the good ones. Under 300k and great schools just isn't happening unless you look into apartments or townhomes. So under 200k is going to be even harder. Have you looked at Broward, its a little cheaper than Miami-Dade.

Ives Estates, zoned to Micheal Krop High School, the same high school as Aventura. Some homes in gated communities are even in your price range around there, as well as the non-gated ones. Not the best schools, but relatively good for the price and value. Just stay away from North Miami Beach High. Also, stay east of NE 2nd Ave, otherwise you're getting in to the City of Miami Gardens, which I wouldn't recommend. Not as sure about price range, but you might also look into Miami Lakes.

Not easy at all in that price range. Like doggiebus said, take a look at Broward County. It's significantly cheaper, the housing market isn't as heated up and it's also safer overall. And the commute is totally doable as long as you don't go much north of South and SW Broward.
