No one is forcing you to speak english, its your choice how well you want to prosper here. Just do the polite thing when a non spanish person enters the room, switch to english.

I don't think it's the majority, negative experiences tend to be more memorable.

You're right - and it's an attitude that is not shared by all of Miami's very diverse Hispanic nationalities.

because unless the conversation involves you there is no reason you should be listening.

What about the Spanish speakers in your office who are also not involved in the conversation. How do you keep them from listening??

I can't but I'm slightly more comfortable in Spanish than English so I'll just stick to speaking Spanish.

Why are you comparing Americans vacationing in Mexico to Latins living in Miami? smh

I assure you, if an American was moving to Mexico, to live, they would learn Spanish.

Notice the part where I said "they will speak to you in English". Nobody's talking about what language you will hear.

You were born in the US, but you're "slightly" more comfortable speaking Spanish, so that's why your casual work place conversations are in Spanish, even when English is the common language for all coworkers in the room. It's OK for your Spanish colleagues to eavesdrop, but you want to guarantee that your English speaking coworkers cannot.

You represent the worst of Hispanic Miami.
