Thank you for bringing some perspective to this, when I posted it, I was hoping someone could, and I had forgotten all about the points you've made. Just one question: how prevalent is drug money in Miami these days? Back when I lived there, it was a factor. However, I have since read that Miami has become much less of player in the drug trade and that routes have shifted dramatically. Supposedly Atlanta has become a major hub. Of course, given that there are really no official statistics, it's hard to separate fact from fiction.

Dallas is also another new hub of drug trafficking. There was an article online on how DFW had become a comman center for the Mexican cartels. Miami surely has some residuals left from the 80s, but it's nothing noteworthy anymore. If you're still bringing it up as like its 1985 then you're sorely mistaken.

It has a lot to do with the building boom in Miami as foreigners from Latin America are pumping money in to the Miami economy by investing in condos and flipping making a huge profit. This eventually drives up the price of real estate and other things while wages are stagnant for the average Joe.

I have a college degree and can't find a decent job. Yet I know a bunch of dropouts and people with only a high school diploma that are doing much better than me, and not hard labor. ****ty office jobs that probably pay $15 an hour. Jobs that I could do with my eyes closed. If I sound bitter....it's because I am.

There's nothing new about Dallas and their drug problems, I-35 runs straight from Dallas to Laredo and into Monterrey as 85. They've cracked down hard with random stops and checks all along I-35, but it's not a new problem.

The new thing is DFW, the airport becoming a hub of drug trafficking.

As far as I have heard, drug smuggling is no longer much of an industry in Miami, but money laundering is what keeps the banking sector profitable. We all know the Wachovia money laundering scandal years ago is just a small fraction of what really goes on. I still believe that when the Fed fails and drugs are no longer criminal, there will be nothing left to pump up Miami's real estate bubble.

i didn't specify anyone in particular, so what are you talking about?

it's just a locked system in miami. it's not really open for jobs
or opportunities for outsiders to succeed. to me, it's just typical
southern fascism. you can dress it up and call it what you want.

it's basically a big town where many people are better off making
their own job rather than looking for one.
