I know 3 people who have gone to Dr. Schneider with eye problems......not just eye exams.....they all speak very highly of him!

Nobody has said that optomotrists only perform eye exams. In fact, in my post above, I specifically noted that both can treat "eye problems." That doesn't change the fact that optomotrists are not medical doctors, cannot perform surgery, and don't handle complicated issues such as detached retinas or diseases of the eye.

By doing this, they get a referral fee as well as fees for handling the non-surgical aspects of the patient's care. If it was me, I'd rather have the surgeon do the pre-operative tests and be responsible for the post-operative care. That's why I usually go to ophthamologists rather than optometrists.
