Anybody ever done this before?

I booked a 4 star hotel with 2 double beds. 4 of us are going. I did this because they charge a higher rate for each person beyond 2 (like over $50 extra per night).

My issue is, how likely is it I'll have any problems poolside or anything? For instance, do they give you some sort of "pool card' for each person officially booked to the room?

I don't know about south beach, but in general most hotels in south Florida are not that picky as long as you don't throw parties or call attention to your self. You parking will be a issue since it will only be on spot and even then you will pay twenty a day.

Worst case is that they charge you after the fact.

South beach might be tighter because of our memorial day weekend fest, but since you are not coming then that strictness might be more relaxed...we are entering our down time for tourist...septempter being the best cheapest time to book at lowest price.

Just keep a low profile and say the two others are guests.

The only one who will know for sure is the maid...so if you take care of her/him and don't leave the room looking like a bomb hit it...you should be fine...

I suppose the just show some integrity and pay extra is too much? If you cannot afford two more people in Miami then you came to the wrong city for a vacation.

No, I do this all the time with hotels all over. I book for 1 or 2, then have 3 or 4. It's not a big deal and most hotels don't ask.

Just make sure your "unregistered guests" aren't making requests.

This is terrible advice. Any hotel on South Beach is not going to be missing $100 a night.

$100 a night can buy 3 or 4 liquor bottles, which would save a ton of money at the bars.

Ah that is what we have become then, when being responsible is terrible advice. Wonderful adults we are producing today.

Since when is looking out for oneself's financial well-being the wrong thing to do?
