Mis-typed, sorry, I meant self-defense, not SYG which indeed had nothing to do with the case, which I clearly wrote elsewhere.

As for codifying neighborhood watch conduct, my understanding is that he was in street clothes and on his way somewhere (Target?) and in his own vehicle, not officially on duty, but I too did not carefully research that point either.

In some neighborhoods that I know in southern Florida, the neighborhood watch people wear uniforms and drive around in specially marked vehicles, whether voluntary or paid, and to my knowledge none carry firearms.

In any case, the judge correctly instructed the jury to reach a verdict based on current definitions in Florida of manslaughter and self-defense, and on that basis the jury came to the legally logical verdict, no question.

As part of those same instructions, the judge also told them not to base a decision on emotions, whether they liked or disliked any of the parties involved (defendant, defense attorneys, prosecution attorneys, witnesses, or the judge herself), or on whether they felt sorry for anybody, which is all that the prosecution had to go on.

Nonetheless, I do not believe that it is unreasonable to suggest considering a legal code of conduct for neighborhood watch people, especially if they carry firearms, to suggest a re-examination of the definition of manslaughter (it is a bit vague, especially the language about "series of acts", what does that mean exactly?), or to re-examine the definition of self-defense.

But that doesn't mean that after re-examining such proposals and laws that legislators decide to leave them as they are.

WOW some people have absolutely no sense of humor. I predicted there would be no riots, by the way.

Actually I got Tallrick's humor on this, really seriously it was humor a little bit crass, but still humor.

That being said I am also proud that my community as I think ALL of Miami is proud that we did NOT make a spectacle of all of this. There were protests and they were peaceful, and they honored TM in that respect. It makes me very proud that we have come this far.

If you are saying this to those of us who didn't find your link funny and found it offensive then let me clarify something: we have a sense of humor, we just don't share your sense of humor.

Tallrick let's get this straight: no one gave you the authority to determine what other people should find "funny".

LOL I found this funny because its sarcastic, but I would find it funnier if I wouldnt know how racists are some "whites". So racists that I bet they think they go to the bath and expulse flowers and perfum, unlike the rest of the mankind. Not saying I think Tallrick is like that, just my opinion.

I'm glad that there were no riots. The media was salivating at the prospect of racial rioting. They've been portraying this as a murder of a young innocent boy right from the get go.

I don't think they ever showed this photo on MSNBC

What this jury has done is establish a precedent that when you are young and fit a certain profile, you can be committing no crime, just bringing some Skittles and iced tea home to your brother, and be killed and someone can claim self-defense - Al Sharpton

Someone should tell Al that assault is in fact a crime. Following someone is not a crime. But breaking the nose of someone because they are following you is a crime.
