I am planning to visit Miami next year. I need to know is English spoken there? This may sound stupid but I have heard a lot of stuff about Miami being Spanish. To what extent is English known there and who is more likely to speak it?

Please enlighten me on this. Would I have to learn Spanish to communicate there?

Do you learn a different language every time you visit countries where English is not the official language?

Look at all these replies in English!

Yes. The majority of people speak English. Most people are bilingual but almost everyone does speak English.

Even if they did not do you learn French if you went to France for a week? People speak English all over the world. It is the international language.

OMG! Of course English is spoken here, signs are in English, and believe it or not most folks will speak English, although some might have an accent. I am sorry but where did you get that Miami an international city was a non English speaking part of the united states?!

Sorry but this just blows my mind!

Seriously this is just plain insulting!

Don't waste your time and energy being insulted. From his posting history going back to 2010, the OP is a troll who by his own admission makes up hypothetical situations and questions. Most of his earlier posts pertain to illegal immigrants, the white race dying out, and other hot button issues. However, my favorite two posts of his are when he describes himself as a 20-yr-old guy afraid to cross the border into Canada and then in another thread talks about his 18-yr-old daughter who wants a car for college.

I have a confession, I am petrified at the border crossing. What should I expect?

Should I get one of those for the 18 year old daughter?

If so which one?

Good question. No, they will not allow you to exit customs at the airport if you cannot pass a brief written and oral Spanish exam. However, most tourists read the quick study guide online beforehand which you can find here:

https://www.miamichamber.com/

I don't remember all of it but it takes less than 5 minutes and covers vocabulary and a few topical areas such as Cuba, Arroz con Pollo, Calle Ocho and chismosas.
