Someone from the middle class who puts on airs and acts like what they think a rich person behaves. Wealthy people are practically worshipped in South Tampa.

I don't rightly know, I have only driven through Naples on my way to Miami There's Money all over Florida. If you want to live with the super rich, live in Palm Beach.

Oh please.....

anyone with any money is not going to live in dumpy old back-water Tampa.
They'll live in Palm Beach, Miami Beach, Exclusive communities on the southeast coast or extreme SW coast aka Naples. . . .

aint no one tryin to live in boring Tampa. It's ugly.

I always thinks its funny when people talk crap about Tampa.
Miami may be better than Tampa, as long as your rich. You have to consider the lifestyle you can afford. A beautiful waterfront home in Miami beach doesn't do you any good if you can't afford it.
For instance, I'm just a middle class sch-muck. I have no education, but I have a descent job. I live on a 900 ft wide canal, 2 blocks from a beautiful beach. My house is an older, modest 1760 sq/ft 3 bed/2 bath, 2 car garage house.
Now, you may be right, this same lifestyle in Miami may be WAY better, but here it cost $380K. How would a middle class sch-muck like me be living in Miami?

I know you must hear a lot of hyperbole on here, but you'd probably be able to afford much of the same thing you do in Tampa. For 380K you can find a modest older home in a nice neighborhood too. Probably not two blocks from the beach, but the canal might be doable.

Someone who makes $40,000 a year, lives at home with their parents, drives a leased Bently, has 100K in credit card debt. Miami is full of them.

The main difference is that Miami is a foreign city.

I have been to Tampa and absolutely love it, thought it was a beautiful city. Not sure why anybody in Miami would hate on Tampa. I don't think affordability is necessarily the draw for Tampa, since as some posters mentioned, you can afford similar homes and locations in Miami if you're not a complete credit criminal and suck at managing finances. The thing is Miami has a lot of people like that, this is why the perception exists that it is not affordable. I think the real draw for Tampa versus Miami is the culture; more southern, more quaint, less craziness.

It feels just like it is, a medium sized city in the South, just that it happens to be on a beautiful coastline. Miami is a great city, it's big, it's fast, it's attractive, but some people don't like that. I would happily live in Tampa because my personality I think suits it, as I'm sure it does others.
