What do you people think about the approval to raise property taxes and give Jackson $830 million? I am a bit surprised that people would vote for an increase in their property taxes at a time like this and also with the recent news of Jackson's mismanagement. The only thing that would make sense to me is that many of the voters are not property owners but recipients of Jackson's services.

^ this, especially since with county workers have taken pay cuts and still we were at a budget shortfall. Something tells me that no one will want a millage rate increase, so most likely those that voter benefited.

Maybe a lot of Jacskon employees voted

I am not sure how I feel about this. I'm kind of a communist at heart but it does bother me that there is so much corruption. Maybe if I could be sure that most of the money is gonna be spend efficiently I would agree with the tax.

And my taxes went up over $300 this year from last year as it is. I won't even mention my home owners insurance...

I love how the county puts these important money votes in an election that most people don't even know there is a vote. Sneaky... If they had put this last year or in the 2014 election year for the Governor, people wouldn't of passed the tax increase.

That's what I was thinking too. But at the same time, the voter turnout was extremely low (only 11.4%).

How unfortunate that this thing passed.

People are stupid. Especially the majority of the ones that vote.

I wonder what the difference is in actual voter numbers, not percentage, of people who voted for this tax increase vs. those who voted for the Pets Trust tax increase. And then I wonder if the Jackson one will go through, vs. the Pets Trust being squashed.

Makes me glad we don't live there anymore. No matter how much money Jackson gets it'll all be frittered away.

I got plenty of fliers telling me to vote for Jackson bonds at home but it never told me how much money. If it was 200 even 300 million I may have voted for it. When I stepped into the voter box (one of the few people to do so in dade county) and saw the number of 830,000,000 I said no way! I am surprised people voted for it. Honestly most people probably just don't understand and all it said was issuing bonds it said nothing about taxes, if it did I am sure it would not had past.

And I agree something this large should have been on a bigger ballot such as a govenour race or congress term. Spending more money we don't have, what else is new.
