Several years ago development on a new waterpark was proposed across from the Sun-Life stadium (see link below). Anyone know if this project has been scrapped for good or whether they still plan to go through with the park?

How safe is that area exactly? Last I've red, supposedly Miami Gardens is crazy dangerous and with very high crime and violence.

I can think of 4 different waterpark projects that have been proposed over the years where nothing ends up happening.First one and the one that had the least press was one in Florida City, the Sun Life stadium one,the one that's been supposed to be going outside Zoo Miami for like a decade now and the one that I thought had the strongest chance of happening and was supposed to be built in Lockhart Stadium in Ft.Lauderdale.This one even had the Schlitterbahn waterpark name behind it where you could find renderings online and Schlitterbahn being one of the top waterpark brands out there I really thought it was a go,I haven't seen anything about this one or the zoo project being cancelled,it just appears that projects like these take 20 years to happen in Miami.

The residents blocked or keep trying to block the zoo Miami one. I know because a friend if mine lives nearby and is not in favor it.

They built a small watermark off of 37th ave and sr836...

Everyone suffers from NIMBY down here so unless it is located far from civilization it takes a lot to make it happen. Sun life only happened because joe Robbie bought the land and developed it when not a lot was near it.

Well, it hadn't been scapped as of earlier this year when Ross was still trying to get money for Sun Life Stadium upgrades.

Here's the pertinent section of the linked article below:

• If the stadium modernization goes forward, the Dolphins will add a general-admission bar on the south side, using empty office space that was previously used by the Marlins.

• Ross said he’s waiting to see if this project will go forward before deciding whether to proceed with longstanding plans for a water park across from Sun Life Stadium. “We’ll look into the water park [regardless], but it’s best to do it together,” he said.
