I was wondering if anyone knew if and where there is free parking close to the beach? Doesn't have to be in SoBe, but I'd like it to be close enough to be able to carry a chair and beach bag to the sand without a long trek. I usually go down to the Keys or to Bill Baggs, but I'd like to hit a Miami beach every once and a while for a change of pace.

one of the best is that if u have a per diem gig down in the beach. I used to work for a nursing home on Collins. The parking permit i got was good every time to park there so i went there on my days off and walked to South Beach. or make friends with people who live by the beach and park in their free guest parking spaces

North of 26th or so, parking is free after 6 pm. It's mainly advantageous for the summer, though.

Residential street parking in North Beach (west of Harding, north of 71st) does not have a permit requirement, it is an option especially if you get there early and now in the winter with less people going to the beach in general. I can usually find a spot along the canal in the 70's or 80's, or else across the bridge on Crespi Blvd (pedestrian bridge across the canal is at 81 ST). It depends if you consider a 5-10 minute walk a long trek with your equipment.

Sunny Isles also has free street parking west of Collins from 174 up to 183rd, It has a time limit though, 2 or 3 hours, I don't remember exactly since I'm rarely on the beach more than an hour at a time.

The lot on 17th street near Washington ave is not far from the beach, its a dollar an hour. Does not get much cheaper than that. The residential zones are free when they are not in effect but these days I don't even know when they aren't.

The garage on 7th St is also $1/hr. I always go there whenever I'm at Miami Beach.

^^ Just be careful and make sure you're going in to the City garage, as the private one right across the street is much more expensive! For 17th, you want the one on the south side of the road.

Yep. For 17th you want the one on the South side of 17th street and the garage which is West of the road between the two. Really the one which looks older. City lots in Miami Beach are fantastic when not full. There is a new one near Purdy Ave where that new smallish commercial development is. 1hr an hour also.

7th St. actually is cheaper than 17th St. if you're parking all day because the rate at 17th St. goes up after 6 hrs. For example, it's a total of $8 if you're there for a little over 6 hours; $10 for between 7 & 8 hours; and, $15 for 8+ hours (up to 15 hrs). The 7th St. garage is a flat $1/hr.
