If you are in the city, the most likely one you would see would be the Everglades Racer which is harmless and either gray or black and actually do a good job of eating rodents and other pests around the yard. You might see the harmless Yellow Rat Snake around as well. As you get in areas out near the Everglades/SFWMD land, you start to get a lot of other stuff including venomous snakes. I spend a lot of time hiking and I have seen Cottonmouth, Burmese Python, Coral Snake, and Eastern Diamondback. There have been issues with African Rock Pythons (more dangerous/aggressive than Burmese) recently around the Bird Drive Recharge area off of 8th St.

I've never seen a snake in Miami and I often hike through bushy areas.

Just don't jump in your pool too quick as there are worse things than snakes lurking there.
