(cross posted on Ft. Lauderdale area board)
We are looking to move from Kendall (in South Miami-Dade) to somewhere in either South Broward or North Dade, but I don't know much at all about those areas despite living in Miami almost my whole life. I am only familiar with South Dade, so I'm lost!

Here's what we are looking for:
-has to be south Broward or North Miami, we will still be working in the Hialeah area
-good public schools nearby
-good for families/kids
-community events
-near the beach
-affordable-ish housing (we are probably looking to spend around $400k for a 3/2)
-somewhere that it won't be an issue that we don't speak Spanish (as in we want to be able to connect with our neighbors, etc.)

Looking at the map sticky, it looks like areas of Aventura, Miami Shores, Miami Beach, and Sunny Isles are good, but I have no idea if they meet all of the above criteria.

I'd appreciate any advice you can give!

400k is doable in Miami Shores. I live in it and its family friendly. Great schools. Miami Shores Elementary and Doctors Charter (Magnet School). Big on community events. Only problem is septic tanks. Overall great neighborhood that i would raise my kids in.

Miami Shores should be doable with your budget, but keep in mind they'll do things like fine you for growing vegetables in your front yard, never mind if the back yard doesn't have enough sunlight. Other good possibilities are the Sky Lake, Highland Oaks, and Pikwik Lakes neighbourhoods--these would be somewhat lower priced than the Shores. Septic tanks will be an issue though. Also, Miami Lakes has newer homes and is closer to Hialeah.
