Before it's gone you might want to take a last look at the little shopping center next to Allen's drugs. The CVS that will replace it will eventually be closed when the company goes bankrupt, but the little stores will long be a memory by then.

^^^ So is this a done deal or are you speculating. If it is true does that mean that the CVS will take the place of Allen's drugstore and the entire strip mall.

The Allens and some shops are on a separate property. The shopping center next to it is already fenced up for quick demolition in bubbleville.

I know some stores relocated. I'm pretty sure the sewing machine shop did, the bakery and the natural food store. Pathetic that a CVS is going there with Allen's right next door.

The sadder part is that many people are hypocrites. They complain about chain stores putting the mom and pop shops out of business but will end up going to the CVS once it opens.

I have no problem with CVS. I do have a problem with CVS and Walgreens being on practically every corner of every shopping center. If you want to patronize CVS, it's very easy to do. Drive a few minutes in any direction and you'll find one. Do we really need ANOTHER one? And right next to another drug store? They couldn't think of any other establishment to put there if they just had to tear down and rebuild?

Just so you know, I wasn't directly referring to you or anyone on this forum about my previous CVS comments and how people are hypocrites. I was referring to people in general.

It also bothers me that there is a CVS and Walgreens on every corner and what bothers me the most is that they all look the same. We are definitely losing creativity, individualism and above all choices/freedom. As time goes by we have less and less choices/options. Sadly less and less locally owned businesses exist. Many of the small businesses are money laundering businesses since the real legitimate businesses can no longer compete with the giants. My feeling about CVS and Walgreens is that they know that they don't have to be at every corner but they choose to because it keeps competition from moving into their territory and they rather compete with themselves than with a competitor. Since they are so big and powerful they can afford to have stores making a smaller profit or no profit at all. Sorry for my rant.

No problem. I just wanted to point out that I don't have a problem with CVS or Walgreens. They happen to be nice drug stores. But the abundance of them I do have a problem with. It didn't used to be that way even 5 to 10 years ago. They were around enough, but not to this ridiculous extent. And to put one right next to Allen's, which yeah, is a mom and pop, but it's a very large store, is just baffling to me.

In this economy, it seems like only banks and medical related businesses have been built. There is a bank every 1/4 mile, and a drug store every 1/2 mile it seems. You know that eventually they will start to close when the current bubble implodes. That corner of 57 ave and Bird Road has Allen's and a Walgreens there already. The shopping center they will destroy is unique, there is no other like it. CVS has the character of a milk crate.
